Pulsation damper

Pulsation dampening with air vessels or diaphragm surge suppressors.

As with all oscillating piston pumps, the crankshaft drive and the inertia of the liquid columns in our systems cause natural pressure fluctuations in the flow. However, these so-called pulsations can be effectively reduced—and this is exactly where our damping technology comes into play.

In the simplest case, pulsation damping is achieved via an air reservoir, in which a defined volume of air compensates for pressure fluctuations and stabilizes the flow.

For applications involving high pressures or sensitive processes, we recommend the use of diaphragm shock absorbers. They respond particularly quickly, reliably separate the fluid from the damping volume, and ensure smooth, low-pulsation operation—even under demanding conditions.

The result: smooth operation, less vibration, reduced stress on piping and fittings—and thus a longer service life for the entire system.

In the simplest case, pulsation damping is achieved by introducing air into the so-called air chambers along with the flow.

Alternatively, the use of diaphragm shock absorbers is advisable, especially when the pump is operating at high discharge pressures.

Valves play a central role in every piston-diaphragm pump: They regulate the flow rate, prevent backflow, and thus ensure stable, controlled operation—even under fluctuating pressures or high solids content.
