Pump Control in Piston-Diaphragm Pumps

Mechanical pump control

EMMERICH – Piston diaphragm pumps come standard with an integrated, automatic pressure-flow adjustment system that is ideally suited to the capacity of a filter press.

Through a variable amplitude movement of the diaphragm, the flow rate varies while the nominal speed of the piston diaphragm pump remains constant. A drive via a frequency converter with corresponding control is not required.

Frequency converter

By using variable frequency drives, the flow characteristics of the piston diaphragm pump can be flexibly adapted to any process. Since the pump requires only a frequency signal applied to the motor to operate, it can be easily integrated into an existing control system. In times of rising energy costs, this is an investment that pays for itself quickly.

The frequency converters used by EMMERICH are distinguished not only by their simple installation and versatility. Their strength lies in their power, which enables them, for example, to start up against full discharge pressure. Thanks to their effective operating methods, new levels of starting torque and smooth power delivery are achieved. Furthermore, intelligent functionality ensures the careful use of resources.

An optional touch panel allows measurement values from external sensors, as well as directly from the frequency converter, to be read and displayed.

Whether mechanically or electronically controlled, Emmerich pumps adapt to any process. With the new JE Sense control system, we also offer intelligent monitoring of pressure, temperature, vibration, and more—for maximum efficiency and process reliability.

Smart control – precise, efficient, and flexible.

Every application places different demands on pump control. That is why Emmerich offers two perfectly matched control concepts: mechanical self-regulation for simple, robust processes—and the new JE Sense electronic control platform for maximum flexibility and transparency.

Mechanical control – simple, reliable, low-maintenance.

Our piston diaphragm pumps come standard with automatic pressure and flow rate adjustment, precisely tailored to the filling cycle of a filter press.
Through a variable amplitude movement of the diaphragm, the flow rate automatically adapts to the current pressure—without the need for a frequency converter or external control system.

This solution operates purely mechanically, requires no additional electronics, and impresses with its robustness, operational reliability, and minimal maintenance costs—ideal for applications where a consistent process and ease of use are paramount.

Electronic control system with a frequency converter – the smart solution for complex processes.

With our new JE Sense control system, we’re taking it a step further:
It’s based on state-of-the-art variable frequency drive technology and enables dynamic adjustment of the flow rate to virtually any process—precisely, energy-efficiently, and fully integrated.

The frequency converter allows the pump speed to be precisely controlled. At the same time, the system monitors key operating parameters such as pressure, temperature, diaphragm tension, vibration, and flow rate. All values are recorded, visualized, and documented in real time—optionally via a touch panel or a higher-level process control system.

The result: maximum process reliability, optimal energy efficiency, and a clear overview of the system status—anytime and from anywhere.

In short:

Mechanical control: robust, maintenance-free, self-contained – perfect for filter presses and standard processes.

JE Sense control: digital, network-ready, predictive—ideal for demanding applications requiring monitoring.

Two systems, one goal: maximum efficiency and absolute process reliability
